Data is transmitted by the light disbursement of the bulb, there is no data transmitted beyond the lit room.
What is LiFi?
The Lifi or Light Fidelity is a wireless communication technology based on the use of visible light.
While Wi-Fi uses radio portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, meanwhile Lifi uses the optical spectrum. By turning on and off millions of times per second an LED bulb can transmit information by creating a binary sequence. Changes in extremely fast sequences which are not visible to the human eye can transfer all kinds of data such us video, audio and broadband at higher speeds than those we know today, 1 Gb/s for Lifi versus 150Mb/s for wifi.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Through a Lifi router, light carries the data to your smartphone or tablet (modulation imperceptible to the naked eye). A photo-receiving diode receives the light emitted by the LED source to a distance of several dozen meters and converts the light signal into geo-coordinates.
Each LED bulb works like a small GPS satellite by sending its coordinates to a cloud that allows you to retrieve information.
No electromagnetic wave emissions, the Lifi can be used where WiFi or Bluetooth are unreliable or restricted, for example such as a hospital.
Locates a tablet or a mobile with an accuracy of 10 cm inside the buildings and a response time of 0.1 seconds.
No infrastructure changes: You can replace your existing light bulbs with LED or if your lighting is already in LED, you can keep it and simply add a Lifi router.
